Tuesday 12/2/08 - Departure

We woke up bright and early at 7 am and went out onto the patio to enjoy the morning air and the view of the ocean for one last time until next Thanksgiving. Craig made Craig McMuffins with the remainder of the eggs, cheese, and bacon. We enjoyed our nice breakfast, and then took showers and packed up our things. Checkout time was 11 o'clock, and we checked out right on time. When I got into the car there was a big green grasshopper which resembled a leaf on my skirt.

We drove to Marty's place to say goodbye. This was the first time we had seen the view from his new place in the daylight, and it was was gorgeous. We watched some of Marty's Blue Man Group DVD's on his impressive home theater setup (he nearly blasted out our eardrums!), and said our goodbyes to him, Doty, and Andy (Kramer).

We headed out at around 12:30. Steve's mission for this trip was to buy a new camera to take on his upcoming trip to Costa Rica and Panama. We stopped in Havensight so that he could go to Boolchand's, where we had had good luck with electronics in the past. Steve bought his camera and we got a doll for Craig's grandmother for Christmas.

We went to the Delly Deck for lunch. There were a lot of locals there, which is always a good sign. It seemed to be more of a restaurant for the workers in Havensight than for tourists, and this suited us just fine. We got the special, which was a beef burrito smothered in cheese with Spanish rice. It was delicious - and massive - way too much to eat. We were glad to have some Mexican food, though we did lament the fact that one of our favorite restaurants here (Charlotte Tamales) had gone out of business due to exorbitant rent costs. Craig got a bushwhacker and I had a refreshing piña colada which was adorned with whipped cream, chocolate fudge sauce, and a cherry. Yum!

We left the restaurant at around 2:30 pm and headed to the airport. We stopped for gas (which cost $16) and returned the rental car with 82.2 miles on it. Not many miles for five days, yet the car was essential for running errands and just having the freedom to do whatever we wanted without having to deal with the hassle and expense of a taxi.

We were flying US Airways this time, and the flight was at 5:30, a bit later than our usual American Airlines flights. We settled into the gate at 3:45. We found it amusing that our flight was going from Charlotte Amalie to charlotte, North Carolina.

The flight actually boarded and left early. That doesn't happen often! There were no complimentary drinks on the flight; they were charging $2 each. This was the first time we had ever seen anything like this, and we abstained out of principle. We arrived early in Charlotte, (around 7:30-ish). The airport is small and much more manageable than our usual Miami stopover. We got bagels in the airport Finagle a Bagel and then departed on a 10:15 flight home.

We arrived home after midnight and immediately missed the tropics as we walked through the cold parking garage at Logan to find our car. We had work bright and early the next morning, but we would be dreaming of St. Thomas.
