Saturday 11/24/12 - Enjoying Secret Harbour

We woke up around 8:30 a.m.and brewed a fresh pot of Dunkin Donuts coffee. We like taking it easy in the mornings, and it is always nice to enjoy a fresh home-made breakfast while enjoying the beautiful view of the ocean. Craig made us his signature Craig McMuffins with cheese and bacon. He custom-cooked them one at a time with great care. It was delicious and we enjoyed it along with orange juice and coffee. We listened to the blues on the iPod as we lingered over breakfast.

At around noon, we grabbed towels and drinks (Soggy Dollar plastic cups worked nicely for my Smirnoff ice, and the boys brought Heineken cans) and headed down to the beach. We set up on the far end of the beach where it was less crowded, and we were able to get some beach chairs in a shady area. The weather was sunny and beautiful, and all of us went into the water.

The water is always calm here, and we enjoyed being up to our necks, standing and floating, sipping our drinks. Craig, Steve, and I stayed in the water for a long while. It was just so comfortable and relaxing. When our fingertips were sufficiently pruny, we got out of the water and sat in our beach chairs for a while. Marty went back to the room to re-up our drinks, and we went back into the water again.

Shortly after 4 o'clock, we headed back to the room. We got showered and put on dinner clothes. The shower in our room was very luxurious and had smooth river rocks on the floor. It felt like we were at a spa. We watched the sunset out on the blacony, drinks in hand. It had been a very relaxing day.

We decided to eat on premises tonight, so we walked to the next building over, the location of the Sunset Grille. We are very lucky to have such an exquisite restaurant only a short walk from our rooms. Even though we aren't foodies, we can appreciate a high end meal. Today was the perfect day for it, as we had skipped lunch and were adequately hungry.

We were seated on the patio looking out over the ocean. We ordered a round of nutwhackers (bushwhackers containing peanut butter - what's not to love? Plus the name conjured up fun imagery).

The amuse bouche (a course that we hadn't even heard of until yesterday, when Marni and Christy were talking about it - did I say we're not foodies?) was a watermelon mint shooter served in a miso spoon. It was delicious and refreshing. For shared appetizers, we got beef tenderloin tataki on wonton chips served with mango salsa and wasabi cream. We also got plantain and conch fritters which were a great texture and very tasty.

For my main course, I ordered the peppercorn and coriander encrusted tuna with white bean ragout and sweet and sour eggplant caponata. There were two huge hunks of tuna. It was delicious. Craig got lump crab and potato encrusted mahi mahi with sauteed broccolini and pineapple pear jam. It was awesome too! Craig and I shared our entrees. We also tasted mom's bacon wrapped filet. Everything was exquisite. And the presentation on the plate was very attractive.

A party was going on in the wine room adjacent to the patio. When the door opened to let someone in or out, the bass-driven house music was deafening. But as soon as the door closed, you could no longer hear it, and were just nerdily impressed by the soundproofing.

We ordered another round of nutwhackers, and for dessert stuffed ourselves with a decadent chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream. It was a pricey meal but truly a fine dining experience. And so convenient - right next door to our building!

After dinner we walked back to the room. We chatted and hung out until 11:30, when we went to bed.
