The gas truck still has not made its weekly visit (it has been 2.5 weeks since its last appearance). Yesterday we (inevitably) ran out of cooking gas in the afternoon, so Rosa cooked dinner over the fire. As it drizzled rain, we all piled into the fire shed (including the two dogs). Soup bubbled in large pots, potatoes and mixed veggies were sauteed in frying pans, and ears of corn were roasted in the coals. The corn is of a particular type (choclo), and this particular preparation is known as choclo asado. As the kernels got slightly blackened, they pulled the ears from the fire, pulled the kernels off, and we ate them. Delicious! Toward the end of the cooking session, they fried up some beef, and we all enjoyed a lovely dinner.
