Sisa loves to do word search puzzles ("sopa de letras" in Spanish). We had bought a couple of book sof bilingual word searches, which have you find the same words in Spanish and English. Each puzzle has a theme (farm animals, clothing, bedtime, etc.) Sisa dove right in and enjoyed finding every word, and learning the English and Spanish equivalencies. - DSC04229

Sonam made kewa datshi (potatoes, cheese, and peppers from Rosa's garden) to go with dinner. It was delicious, and Rosa and Antonio enjoy it as well (though it's too spicy for the kids, LOL!) - DSC04256

Next Hector drove us up to El Panecillo, a hill overlooking the city. There is an enormous aluminum statue (the largest in the world) of the Virgin of Quito. We had seen the statue from a distance before (she looks over Old Town), but it was amazing to see it up close! We had a panoramic view of the city, and could see the basilica towering over the surrounding buildings. - DSC04495 - Copy

As Sonam aptly put it, we had a "day full of wow's" today in Quito! Antonio's friend Hector picked us up at 7:15 a.m. and drove us into the city. We stopped for breakfast on the road at one of the many roadside shops which sell coffee and bizcochos. We each got a cup of coffee and we shared a bag of fresh baked bizcochos, dipping them in dulce de leche caramel. There was a man outside the restaurant selling fresh honey, and we bought a small container of honey and honeycomb to bring back to the family.
