After dinner, Jess and Javier drove us to the basilica where Hector was parked. As we said goodnight to them, Hector was happily surprised to see that we had met friends in the city. We drove back to Morochos, arriving at 10:30 p.m. - DSC04696

Rosa still uses a grinding stone (used in this area since pre-Columbian times) to grind corn. The ground corn will be used in soup for lunch. - DSC04715
Sonam gets Abuelita laughing - DSC04719
Rosa's stove and our hot water heater run on canisters of gas. The family buys tanks and then a truck comes by on a regular interval to collect empty tanks and replace them with full ones. However, the gas truck has not come in several weeks. The tank for the water heater is empty, and the one for the kitchen stove is nearly so. Javier to the rescue! He returned to Morochos for his final week today, and he brought a friend who had an extra tank of gas. We exchanged our empty canister for her full one, and now we have a supply of gas for cooking! Otherwise Rosa would need to cook outside on the fire, as she had on a past visit when gas was also in short supply. Thank you Javier and your generous friend! - DSC04728
