Guatemala 7/1/2022 - 7/17/2022

Wednesday, 7/13/2022 - Wedding Gifts

I still wasn't feeling my best, and we had a lazy morning. I worked, and Ivan did remote school.

Craig was getting undressed to shower when Ivan came in the room. Craig was just in underwear and a towel. Craig shut the door and Ivan just kept giggling. It was quite funny. We both showered and I started to feel a bit less congested.

We finally came out of the room at 10:30 a.m. Ivan was in English class online. We had scrambled eggs with ham, refried beans, fried plantains, and coffee.

I worked and neither of us had lunch. Craig's stomach has been bad for 3 days; he had had a lot of diarrhea and was worried about dehydration.

I chatted with Humberto and Paulina when Humberto got home from work. We talked about our upcoming trip to Australia. I described Uluru, and Humberto told me about the Compadre Rock in Guatemala.

I went to the pharmacy to buy some antibiotics for Craig. I walked up Rancho Grande to the Cruz Verde and bought some azythromycin.

Craig and I were both resting in the cool room when Aracely came in with some Gatorades and Yasmin came and sat on the bed with us.

At 5 o'clock, Aracely, Ivan, Paulina, Humberto, Craig, and I walked to Danny's parents' house. It is just a couple of blocks away. Vanesa and Danny are currently living in a large room in Danny's parents' house, but Danny owns a parcel of land in their compound, and they will soon be building their own house there.

Danny's family has many pets, including dogs, ducks, chickens, guinea pigs, and a kitten named Cheeto. The property is set back from the road and is an oasis with coffee plants, banana trees, avocado trees, and limon trees.

It took Vanesa and Danny many trips just to bring all of the gifts outside from their room. In fact, there were so many gifts tat they handed some out to each of us to help open them. They got many nice gifts, including a microwave, panini press, knives, plates, coffee and tea cups, a teapot, a coffee maker, etc.

Then they served coffee and banana bread, and gave Paulina and me each a loaf of banana bread to take home. Danny gave Craig a milk chocolate bar they bought on their honeymoon. As it got dark and heat lightning lit up the sky, we went to see Danny's adjacent plot of land where they will be building their own house.

We walked home. Later Vanesa and Danny came over for dinner of a hearty chicken soup which worked well for Craig's tummy and my throat. We chatted with Humberto, Paulina, Danny, and Vanesa until 10:30, at which point we went to bed.
