PrologueWe planned this trip around our goddaughter Shina Tayanta's baptism. We settled on a three week trip so that we would have time to help with preparations for the baptism and party. We would fly on weekends and I would work remotely on weekdays, which meant that we could take this entire 3 week trip without using any of my precious vacation days from work. Now that they have reliable internet, working from there is totally viable.Unfortunately, the kids' mother Aida would not be present at the baptism. She is currently working with her boyfriend Rolando in Chile. The kids' grandparents, Antonio and Rosa, are caring for them in her absence. 1/7/2017 - ArrivalWe took the 8:15 a.m. Logan Express bus to the airport. It was the first time we got to use our TSA pre-check from Global Entry, which meant that we breezed through security. We got breakfast. Our flight was leaving at 11:00 a.m., just as snowflakes were starting to fall. We were able to get out of Boston just before the big snowstorm hit. (They got about 8 inches.) Traveling at this time of year is always a gamble. Our connection in Miami was 90 minutes late, but all turned out well. We arrived in Quito at around 9 p.m. Antonio, Rosa, Sisa, Yupanqui, and Tayanta met us at the airport with flowers. The ride home only took about 90 minutes. We got back to the house at around 11:30 p.m. We were greeted by the family's new dog Cachupin. We were all tired and went straight to bed. We got settled into our casita and went to sleep. |
A warm welcome at the airport See all photos from this day |
