Thursday, June 26, 2025 - Sarita

When I got up for work today, Paulina gave me a cup of coffee and a cookie to tide me over until breakfast. Once Craig got up, we had toasted bread with peanut butter and jelly and orange juice.

I had a lot of meetings at work today. Aracely and Elsa came over at around noon. We had breaded, fried shrimp and vegetables for lunch.

Elsa really needed a nap, but has a hard time sleeping anywhere other than home. Craig and I realized that we had already been here for over a week and we had not yet taken any of the kids to Sarita for ice cream. When I was done with work, we asked Ian and Yasmin if they wanted to go. They did. Even Paulina wanted to go. We asked Aracely, but she was trying to get Elsa to sleep in one of the bedrooms. So we offered to bring something back for her. But ultimately Elsa would not sleep, and it became apparent that possibly the best way to get her to fall asleep was to wrap her in the cloth that they use as a baby carrier and walk with us to Sarita.

Lo and behold, that did the trick. We took umbrellas with us, as we were afraid that it would rain while we were gone. It did start to sprinkle as we walked up Santander Street to Sarita.

Craig got a banana split with dulce de leche and strawberry ice cream. I had a sundae with strawberry sauce, peaches, whipped cream, nuts, and a cherry with 3 scoops of queso fresa (strawberry cheesecake). We told the family to get whatever they wanted. Paulina got a cone, the girls got banana splits, and Ian got a sundae.

While we were enjoying our ice cream at Sarita, it started to absolutely pour. The rain made a river flowing down the middle of Santander Street. As Craig and I were getting ready to go out the door into the deluge, the family stopped us. They had called Humberto and asked him to pick us up in the van, which he did. What a nice guy to make the trip even though he didn't get any ice cream! We would have been totally soaked otherwise. The rain was intense. When we got back to the house, the rain catchment pipes were flowing like crazy.

We had tea and cookies. Elsa finally woke up from her nap, well-rested and happy. We played Uno with Aracely. Humberto got us sushi and served it to us with red wine. (Thursday is 2-for-1 sushi day at Hana Restaurant on Santander Street.) Normally, bargain sushi a few hours away from the coast sounds a bit sketchy, but it was delicious and fresh!

Joel came over after he finished with work. The family shared the second order of sushi between them, and augmented it with leftovers. I fed Elsa her bottle. We went to bed at 10 o'clock.
