Guatemala 7/1/2022 - 7/17/2022

Saturday, 7/16/2022 - Our Last Day

If we hadn't seen them with our own eyes, we never would have known that there were 20 people (including 10 small children) staying in the guest rooms above us last night. They were absolutely silent.

When we opened our door in the morning, some tiny ones peeked in and said buenos dias... they were so cute! We greeted the guests as they were finishing breakfast. they were from an area of Guatemala near the Mexican border, and they were quite friendly. They wanted photos with the gringos and we happily obliged.

For breakfast we had toast, peanut butter, jelly, and coffee.

I had to go to the ATM, and Ivan asked if he could go with me. Of course, he had the ulterior motive of wanting ice cream, but we hadn't bought him ice cream so far on the trip, and we would be leaving tomorrow. So we stopped at Sarita and I bought him a banana split.

When we got home, Craig and I played Uno with Ivan for quite a while. Lunch was fried shrimp and potatoes. After lunch, we got our luggage packed.

At 4 o'clock, Paulina asked if we wanted to go with her to the church to light candles. So we took a tuk-tuk to San Francisco de Asis with her, lit three candles, and sat in the church for a while. Then we took a tuk-tuk back home.

Ivan was getting Octavio the puppy all riled up, and he kept biting at our ankles and pants. Aracely eventually put him back in Paola's room.

Supper was soup and bread and tamales made by Humberto's sister-in-law Tina next door.

We knew that we would be leaving in the morning before the kids would be awake, so we said our goodbyes to everyone who was home: Yoselin, Aracely, Ivan, and Eddy. It had been such a great visit; we had gotten to spend a lot of quality time with everyone, as well as sharing in the experience of the wedding.

Shortly after we went to bed at 10 o'clock, there was a knock on our door. Vanesa and Dany had come by after work to say goodbye. Yasmin was now home as well. So we got to say goodbye to all of the kids except for Paola, who was working a 24 hour shift. Humberto promised that if she wasn't home by the time we left in the morning, we would swing by her clinic to say goodbye on the way to the airport.
