Sunday, August 24, 2025 - Party Clean-upSince we didn't get to bed until after 3 a.m., we slept late today, waking up at 10:45 a.m.Breakfast was a ham and cheese sandwich, a fried egg, fries and lots of coffee. Jaime was there helping to clean up, and ate breakfast with us. It is nice to see Kuri interacting with his dad. The other kids don't have a father who is involved in their lives. Often, Jaime is away working in Chile, but it was very nice that he was able to be here for his son's baptism. The family ate lunch, but we weren't hungry after having had such a late breakfast. Then they all went next door to Antonio's brother Miguel's house. A lot of the food preparation had taken place over there, and so the family spent a lot of time today fully cleaning up the kitchen. Craig and I each took nice hot showers and then headed outside. Kuri played in the cornfield to the side of the house. I did some laundry in the outdoor sink, and then we picked up trash from the party in the front yard, side yard, back garden, and street. There was a lot to pick up, especially beer bottlecaps, napkins, and balloons. Much of the trash had blown around in the wind. While we were at it, we threw out junk which had been sitting around in the garden as well. Tomorrow would be trash day, so it was good to get everything all bagged up and ready for the trash trucks. We went inside the house in the late afternoon. Craig had a cup of coffee and I had a cup of hot chocolate, and we all had slices of leftover cake. Craig and I went outside to look at the sunset. The horizon was orange while the sky above us was gray/black. Yupanki made dinner for us. Dinner consisted of tomato soup, a fried egg, hot dog ("salchicha"), broccoli, carrots, steak, llapingachos (fried mashed potato medallions), and salad. We went to bed at 10 p.m., as we were tired from the busy weekend, and I would need to work early in the morning. |
