Monday, August 25, 2025 - Working Remotely with KuriI woke up early and went to work in Sisa and Shina's room. My meeting got over early enough that I was able to eat breakfast at the dining room table with the family. We had scrambled eggs with salchicha (hot dogs), bologna on fresh rolls, coffee, and juice. After breakfast, I went back upstairs. I had a daily meeting, and Kuri came into the room at the end of it. When the meeting wrapped up, I put him on my lap and took a funny selfie. I then sent it to my group at work to show them my "assistant". My boss Sherry was thrilled. She said that she had heard him make a little noise at the end of the meeting and had wanted to see him. I had a meeting during lunchtime so I ate lunch upstairs in the "office": soup, a fried egg, fries, peas, rice, broccoli, and juice. Kuri joined me again for my end of day sync meeting, sitting on my lap and waving to my colleagues on camera. He was so well behaved, just sitting on my lap and watching the screen. When we were signing off from the meeting he waved and said "chao" to my coworkers. The tent people came back to dismantle the tents and take everything away. Now that the tents and stage were dismantled,we were able to pick up some more trash that had been hidden under the stage. Kuri swept plant debris off of the patio and walkway using a broom that was way bigger than he is! The black and white puppy from the party was still hanging around the house. He would come inside and he was adorable (the family's dog Max didn't quite think so, though!) Craig and I had our standard late afternoon pick-me-up: he had coffee and I had hot chocolate. There was a big bucket of fresh strawberries, and Kuri kept grabbing some and playing with them, putting them in the bucket of his Duplo excavator. We worked with Kuri a bit today to have him repeat some words, and he said "menta" (mint) and "fresa" (strawberry). He also repeated after us in English "thank you" and "cookie". Again, although he doesn't speak much, he is capable, and he fully understands everything that is said to him and responds properly with his actions. Antonio got home from work and fell in love with the puppy, and told the family they could keep it. Craig and I suspected that he was someone's puppy; he had shown up for the party and had never left because there was still a lot of leftover food around. But animals aren't always pets here; there are a lot of stray dogs that roam the community. Antonio clearly thought that this was a stray, but we had our doubts, as the puppy was so clean and friendly. The kids wanted to name him Max Jr., which just seemed too confusing since the other dog is Max. As the kids would yell, "Max Jr.!", Max would come running. Craig and I started calling the new little guy Oreo, and that seemed to stick. We noticed the size of his paws, and realized that although he is just a cute little puppy now, he would grow into a large dog. We had some leftover cake as a snack. Antonio went to the bank and transferred some money to a local violin workshop. Shina needed a new violin to start school; the one she had before was not really up to the task. He had seen an appropriate one for sale, so he contacted them and sent payment. Dinner was soup, leftover pulled pork from the party, salad, llapingachos, rice, and fresh strawberry juice. |
