Wednesday, August 27, 2025 - The Kids Go School ShoppingWe woke up early today because the maestro was supposed to come to measure the windows that needed replacement, but he never showed up.Oreo the puppy was around from the very early morning. I didn't have a meeting this morning, so I was able to eat breakfast with the family. We had coffee, scrambled eggs with vegetables, and fresh rolls with ham. The fresh bread that they feed us each day is really something we look forward to. Today Antonio had the day off from work. I went upstairs to my office while Aida, Antonio, Jaime, and Craig talked about the future. Antonio said that Jaime could live with Aida upstairs if that is what the two of them want. Antonio took Sisa, Yupanki, Shina, and Nena to Otavalo and Cotacachi. Sisa, Yupanki, and Shina needed to register for high school. All the kids needed to buy school uniforms and shoes, and Nena and Shina needed to get their ID photos taken. They had planned to leave the house at 10 o'clock, but dilly dallied til almost 11:30. For lunch, Aida made us pork, rice, salad, peas, and potatoes. Jaime had to go back to Chile for work, and wouldn't be back for months. He left on a bus and it would take him about a week to get there. In the late afternoon, when I was done with work, we had leftover cake, coffee, and cocoa. Antonio and the kids didn't get back to the house until after 4 o'clock. They took a taxi home with all of their purchases. Nena came over to us immediately and thanked us for her new capybara backpack. She loves capybaras and even has a stuffed capybara. In addition to the backpack, Nena had gotten 2 pairs of shoes, a blue sweater, a green sweater, and jeans. She excitedly and immediately modeled them for us. Shina and Sisa got school jackets (varsity jacket style). These were optional as far as uniforms went, but they wanted them and we wanted them to have them. They had taken care of their blazers and anakos from last year and didn't need replacements, so we were happy to provide this little treat. Yupanki got a new blazer. Unfortunately, they still didn’t register for school. They had gone to Otavalo first to buy the stuff, and by the time they got to the school in Cocatachi, registration had ended at 1 o'clock, and they were too late. This was their second or third attempt to register, and they would need to go back tomorrow to try again. While they were out, they also picked up Shina's new violin, which had been sent to Cotacachi by the manufacturer once Antonio had transferred the money. Antonio tuned it and played a little, but his shoulder injury from his motorcycle accident made it too painful for him to play. But Shina played for us a little bit too! We know that she is very shy, and we appreciated that she played for us' it was an unexpected treat. Dinner consisted of soup, shrimp, carrots, rice, mushroom cream sauce, fries, an orange slice, and juice. After dinner, we went to our casita to wind down and go to sleep. |
